After pondering and re-pondering a clever intro for my first official food blog entry, I decided against it. In short, this is my new blog dedicated to (surprise!) the food that I discover both in local restaurants and my own kitchen that begs to be shared.
Any Bon Appetit enthusiasts? Love that mag. The June issue has an actual person on the cover, a first for the magazine. There's normally a giant piece of chocolate layer cake or some impossibly succulent cut of meat staring back at me from the cover. But this time, it's Gwyneth.
In addition to the bazillion things Gwyneth Paltrow does well, cooking is yet another, and we sampled one of her recipes tonight. Grilled Halibut with Mango-Avocado Salsa. You can check out the recipe here. I swapped the basil for cilantro, and sauteed yellow squash and zucchini for a quick side. It was super-easy. Vibrant summer flavors. Light. Perfect dinner to combat the muggy Midwestern air outside. And most of the ingredients are found in the fresh produce section of the store, which always makes you feel better about things.
Pinot Grigio also makes me feel better about things, and worked beautifully with this dish. I may have to buy a copy of her new cookbook, My Father's Daughter. Bon Appetit!
