Mug-n-Bun

Maybe I'm late on the Mug-n-Bun bandwagon, but nevertheless, I'm on now! I know several friends who love to visit this west side drive-in during warmer months, and since 1) I was curious and 2) I desperately miss Sonic drive-ins, we headed there for dinner tonight. We are such a Broad Ripple-centric family, and it was nice to have a change of pace and hit another side of town. Here she is:

Not a great picture, but it was packed. At first we were really sad because all the actual "drive-in" spots were full right up next to the restaurant, and we had to resign ourselves to a second row, middle-of-the-parking-lot spot....for 30 seconds until someone backed out and we slid into the coveted "real" row!

Happy that we could actually read the menu posted on the wall, we ordered lots of drive-in food, rolled down the windows, and enjoyed the gorgeous day. Prices are reasonable (sandwiches, hot dogs, burgers and such were all around $5 and sides were less). You turn your headlights on for service, and someone gets to your window right away to take your order. Here's what we ended up with.

A peanut butter shake. I ordered a medium and it was as big as my head. Not a problem.

A breaded tenderloin for the man of the house. He said it was good, but still holds that Keystone Sports Review holds the tenderloin title for him. But for $3.80, it was right on point.

Grilled cheese sandwiches to toss in the backseat for the kiddies. Super buttery toast, came with crinkle fries, no complaints from the ranks. Just lots of greasy handprints all up on my seats, yo.
Burger. Super good. I just get mustard and pickle on mine, but I'm sure it would be delicious with all the fixings.

Check them out this summer if you haven't already. Just make sure you have the correct expectations when you go. This is not health food. No. Nonononono. And its not Michelin-star cuisine. It's an old drive-in that specializes in finger-licking comfort food, and that's exactly what you'll get!
